We’ve written about how trick training can be a fun way to bond with your pup, but we wanted to give you a glimpse of what a trick training class looks like.
The trick training class featured in the below video took place at the JCC in Charlotte, NC. We instructed the owners to walk their dogs around prior to the class starting in order for the pups to sniff, potty, and get their energy out! Once that was out of the way, it was time to get to work.
Touch – A Basis for Trick Training
The class commenced by going over the cue, “touch”. The touch cue is the basis for many of the tricks that will be taught throughout this class. Most of the pups in the class already knew the cue, but for those that didn’t a quick instruction was given.
Wind and Unwind
The pooches then were taught how to wind and unwind. Not only is it a nice trick to teach, but it also is a form of doggie yoga, allowing the pups to turn and move in ways that they don’t normally do, stretching out their spine. Some dogs catch on to wind and unwind quite quickly, while others needed a little more instruction.
Hula Hoop Fun
After wind and unwind it was time for some more fun! Pups and their parents got a hula hoop. Pups were lured through the hoop with a tasty treat. The objective is to get the dogs comfortable with the hoop and when they are used to going through it on the ground lift it up inch by inch until they are jumping through it!
